"Greatest Movie Ever Sold"

We've touched on the frequency of product placement in current film. In fact, I believe we pointed out that there were at least 50, that's right, FIFTY product placements in the film, The Town. And now, Morgan Spurlock, of Super Size Me fame is bringing us a documentary on the subject. And the name of his film is POM Wonderful Presents:The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. No surprise, the documentary was fully funded by - product placement. To the tune of $1.5M. Befuddling? To say the least. Amusing? Kinda.

Apparently, Spurlock hoped to shine a light on the role of advertising, sponsorship, product placement and co-promotion play in the culture we consume. It's everywhere and that's okay. Just as long as we see it for what it is. We're being sold. Indeed, this blog is designed to disseminate information about brand, marketing and advertising, but the reality is - this is a promotional tool - for us. Our readers get something - relevant information, and we get something - exposure. Everyone wins.

So back to the film. And promotion. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is screening at this year's South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas. Look, I just placed Sundance and SXSW here in our blog. If only I got paid.
