Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue, responsible thinking and brand value

Rick Stanton, Creative Director / Managing Partner, Stanton & Everybody Advertising + Design

On the evening of October 26, the all-new Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue had an invitation only open house.

This may not seem newsworthy at first blush, but it will as you continue to read.

Mercedes-Benz of Bellevue is a Barrier Motors company.

I have worked on the Barrier Motors account since Jimmy Barrier came to town in the mid 1980’s. He is probably the only car dealer I would work for given the nature of the category. The reason I value my relationship with them is the simple matter of the brand’s integrity.

Thus the positioning line “A promise to do more.”

When they built this new dealership it not only supports the promise to do more, it supports the concept of responsible thinking.

The facility is perfect. It’s not opulent in the least. It’s comfortable with a touch of industrial design. It’s state of the art without any gaudiness.

And it provides a client experience that supports what the brand has stood for all these twenty-six years.

It’s the excellence of doing things right.

And to top it all off, Barrier Motors is giving $100 to Hopelink for every new and pre-owned Mercedes-Benz sold between now and the end of the year.

It was a perfect night too.

The mood was upbeat. The message the event sent was that not everything about our economy is negative.

And when the representative from Hopelink stood up and said, and I paraphrase, “The people we see everyday have no dreams of owning one of these cars. But through the generosity of Barrier Motors and everyone here, you help people get there lives back on track. And maybe some day even dream about cars like these.”

The food was wonderful, the wines were amazing and the music was delightful.

But the Barrier brand and the things they do for the arts and the community

are why 600 Barrier Believers showed up at a car dealership open house on a cold Wednesday night in late October.
