While Google Goggles first launched in December 2009, it wasn't until this year that marketers have really capitalized on this iPhone and Android app for Google Mobile. If you aren't familiar with Google Goggles, it is a mobile app that translates pictures into a search on the web. For instance, taking a picture of art, wine, books, a public place, logo or even a business card, the app identifies the picture instantly. The user takes a picture of a new Disney ad for Tron, takes you directly to the movie trailer on Disney's website and an opportunity to purchase movie tickets directly. We even took a picture of the Stanton & Everybody logo and it it took us directly to our website and blog. This is good for marketers because it takes the consumer immediately to their website and promotes their brand. This was tested with Disney, Buick, Diageo, T-Mobile and Delta Airlines. All these brands discovered a simple snap of a picture did some serious heavy lifting for their marketing efforts. Many are using their mobile devices for everything- as technology advances, so will the features on Google Goggles. It's amazing how a simple picture can tell you everything you need to know. Will more companies capitalize on Google Goggles?
